INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

Sunset Pools has been hosting and welcoming international applicants for more than 25 years. We pride ourselves in establishing one of the most robust programs for our international employees, to ensure their safety and well-being as Summer Work Travel participant.

We strongly believe that living and working with Americans and other students from around the world affords an extraordinary chance for international applicants to develop new international friendships and cross-cultural understanding.  If you are an international applicant, we hope that you make the most of your experience at Sunset Pools!

LIFEGUARD QUALIFICATION

To be eligible for a lifeguard position, the following lifeguard requirements must be met:

  • Excellent swimming skills
  • Upper intermediate-advanced English level
  • Excellent people skills
  • Excellent customer service skills

Duties and Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to:

  • Ensuring the safety of all pool patrons
  • Responding quickly and professionally to emergency situations
  • Enforcing facility rules and regulations in a fair and consistent manner
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the work area
  • Maintaining and using all safety equipment properly

ARRIVAL IN THE UNITED STATES

Sunset Pools provides complimentary transportation from the airport.  All international participants must provide flight information to our representatives at least two weeks prior to arrival in the US. Email should be sent to [email protected]. Upon receiving flight information, an email including detailed arrival instructions will be sent to you.

International participants are responsible for the cost of transportation from their home country to and from the Washington DC, Baltimore metro area.

Sunset Pools will pick up participants from the following locations:

  • Dulles International Airport (IAD) *preferred airport
  • Regan National Airport (DCA) *preferred airport
  • Baltimore –Washington International Airport (BWI)
  • Union Station (Amtrak/Greyhound): 50 Massachusetts Avenue, NE Washington, DC

HOUSING

Sunset Pools provides safe, affordable housing for all international participants. Your housing will be centrally located for convenient access to your onsite pool location, as well as local restaurants and shops, downtown dining and entertainment venues, and the national monuments.

TRANSPORTATION

Washington D.C., Baltimore, Annapolis area offers some of the best in public transportation, including city bus, shuttle services and Metrorail with 87 stations throughout D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Numerous walking and biking trails are nearby as well, many of which run alongside the Potomac River and national parkland, making it an easy and enjoyable way to reach your destination.

CULTURAL EXCHANGE

Sunset Pools provides a wealth of information to encourage international participants to fully experience the American culture.

All participants are invited to join company events. The events that are offered include but are not limited to; Bowling nights, Movie nights, Pizza parties, and Company picnics.

International participants are encouraged to take advantage of Washington Baltimore metropolitan’s numerous complementary cultural attractions. Some of the cultural attractions are:

  • National Mall
  • Over 70 unique museums
  • City and walking tours
  • Library of Congress
  • U.S. Capitol Building
  • National Zoo
  • Baltimore Aquarium

  • National Parks
  • Numerous Sports and entertainment events, and many more
